In 480-479 BC the Battle of Thermopylae took place in ancient Greece. The Greek warriors who fought in the battle were known as The Spartans, The Spartans were tough and ruthless warriors whose favorite pass time was to be at war. A rising tension was built along the border of Asia Minor when the Persians placed tyrants in the Greek cities, forcing the citizens to pay taxes. The Spartans were just not having that and they rebelled, going at war with the Persians.
Although the Spartans were a smaller force, they were brutal and highly praised, earning a title as the best warriors. The Spartan army of 300 was determined to make a stand against about 100,000 Persians. Zeus was told to choose who the fairest was and who the golden apple should go to, but looking at the choice of ladies, he couldn’t pick one. So Zeus then put the decision on Paris, the Prince of Troy, he spoke to each of the ladies asking why they should be given the apple. Aphrodite was given the apple when she promised him the love of the most beautiful woman, assuming it was her. Aphrodite was not the most beautiful woman, Helen, who was married to the king of Sparta
