Program Outcome 6: Integrate principles of ethics and integrity into business decisions.

What does this outcome look like in the field?

I think that one only needs to look at the environment that we find ourselves in to understand where the principles of ethics and integrity have potentially not been integrated into a variety of business decisions or other decisions that we see having been made in the United States.

By integrating principles of ethics and integrity we not only look at the business situation and we look at what is surrounding it. We really look at what is right and what is just and factor that in; in order to come to a suggestion, a recommendation, or a plan of action that is not only good for the business but good for what surrounds that business.

What might employers expect from learners in relation to this outcome?

Employers would expect to see professionals who are able weigh and take a look at a variety of information. Not only the factual information underlying the decision, but also the principles of ethics and integrity. Ultimately this might mean that the professional who is taking a look at these pieces of information might push back to a organization and challenge how the organization is looking at its own situation and the ethics and integrity that the organization itself implies. This would suggest that the professional who is able to look at this would be one that challenges the organization, and through this helps the organization to come to conclusions, recommendations and next steps that are not only good for the organization but good for all that surrounds the organization.

How does this outcome help learners become more successful in their field?

This is a critical facet of being a professional, those who are successful in leadership positions and those who are held in high regard by others typically have strong evidence of their ethics and their integrity in the work that they do. This outcome helps learners be more successful in their field because they can become known as a leader that acts with integrity and with their ethical principles in alignment.

What does this outcome look like in the field?

This is pretty easy spot in the field because someone that is observing someone in business can see if their communication is focused and if it is oriented towards the audience in an appropriate manor. As we look at this outcome, the professional who exhibits this outcome would be able to understand the needs of the audience, understand the information that needs to be presented, and be able to present that in a clear manor and in a manor that is also effective and efficient.

What might employers expect from learners in relation to this outcome?

Employers would expect professionals to be able to take responsibility for the professional communications with in their position. This would mean that an employer would expect a learner would be someone who would step in and understand how to communicate effectively, to be able to use appropriate tools, to be able to respond and communicate to the specific needs of the audience and to always keep in mind the communication needs of the organization itself.

How does this outcome help learners become more successful in their field?

This is an outcome that can be significant across an individual's career. Communicating effectively and clearly is something that sets professionals apart in different categories. In other words, you can tell immediately if you are interviewing someone or if you are reviewing their information if they know how to communicate clearly and effectively. So in essence this in an outcome that serves to differentiate professionals and can help professional be propelled to higher levels within an organization because they have the communication skills that the organization can leverage.
